Thickness Gauge for Foam & Lofty Products

The Thickness Gauge for Foam and Lofty Products also known as foam thickness tester. It has been designed and manufactured in accordance to AS 2282.2 Method A for measuring dimensions of flexible cellular polyurethane.

Accurate measurements of test pieces are the base for accurate values of certain properties of cellular materials such as density, tensile strength, tear resistance and compression set.

Foam Thickness Gauge Apparatus

The Thickness Gauge for Foam and Lofty Products comprises of a number of components such as:
  • Digimatic scale: with an accuracy of 0.01mm and a range of 200mm.
  • Circular Foot: with dimensions of Ø 80mm in diameter, which is connected to the indicator. Has a pressure of 100 ± 10N/m².

Test Specimens: As a guide, test pieces should be no less than 100mm, but preferably 150mm x 150mm.

Test Procedure to Measure Thickness of Foam

Urethane foam is generally defined as an expanded cellular product produced by the interaction of active hydrogen compounds, water, and isocyanates.

1. Turn ON the Digimatic scale.
2. Zero the scale by lowering the contact point onto the centre of the circular pressure foot and press ON/O. (This will enable an accurate reading of the test piece)
3. Raise the Digimatic scale and hold it there.
4. Place test piece under the centre point of circular foot, while the scale is still raised.
5. Gently lower the scale, until the contact point has met the circular foot.
6. Wait a few seconds while scale displays the measurement.
7. You can now record your measurement.
Test Report: Record your readings obtained from the digimatic scale to find out the thickness of your test piece.
